The i-KEY concept is to ensure that the driver is below the legal alcohol limit before starting the engine. The i-KEY combines a car key with a miniature breathalyzer embedded in the key housing. If a driver's breath sample is found to contain alcohol above the permitted level, the i-KEY will be locked and prevent the potential drunk driver from starting the car.

Other in-car alcohol detecting devices currently available in the market are not only more costly, but require complicated installation, as they are fitted to the car's dashboard, door locks, or some other parts of the vehicle. The i-KEY is unique, simple to use, and requires integration only with the car key. Therefore it can be applied to old cars as well as new ones.
